Industrialist Robert Poole’s machine works manufactured train components, and later, parts for WWI weapons. In 1888, 700 men worked there, making it in its time the largest employer of iron workers in Baltimore. Columns for the U.S. Capitol building were cast there—a proud contribution to one of America’s most iconic landmarks.
